Job Title: Research Associate-Senior/Postdoctoral Fellow
The Center for the Analysis of Pathways from Childhood to Adulthood (CAPCA) is seeking a Research Associate-Senior or Postdoctoral Fellow to work with a multidisciplinary group of researchers on major developmental questions using longitudinal data. The Research Associate/Postdoctoral Fellow will be primarily involved in data analysis working with various Ph.D. researchers but will also have the ability to work on questions of interest to the applicant. Duties:
Provide statistical analytic expertise in SAS, SPSS, STATA (or other statistical software) programming support to Ph.D. Research Professors in the secondary analysis of a variety of large-scale longitudinal datasets from the US and abroad. Create analytic datasets for analysis. Perform complex statistical analyses of longitudinal data, using advanced statistical methods to estimate parameters of various models. Create variables and analytic datasets for analysis. Work independently to produce necessary statistical analyses, generate spreadsheets of results, tables and data displays, provide technical documentation of data and analysis files, and possibly contribute to report writing. Co-authorship a possibility depending on contribution.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in social science or statistics along with educational background in child development. Experience with complex statistical analysis of longitudinal science data bases using SPSS, SAS, HLM and SEM. Experience manipulating large survey data files and cleaning, editing, and documenting data files. Demonstrated experience in the data management and creation of large longitudinal survey datasets. Proficient at conducting complex merges of data files, including over time and within family members (i.e., merging together multiple waves of data and parents and children within families). Proficiency creating generated variables for analysis, including cleaning, editing, consistency checking, and documenting variables and data files. Ability to program computers to manipulate data. Experience in preparing precise technical documentation of data sets. Demonstrated experience in working with senior research staff in the analysis of survey data and performing complex data analysis tasks. Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well in a team setting, a must.
Desired Qualifications:
Advanced study or demonstrated capacity for social science research that is generally associated with a Ph.D. or Master’s degree supplemented by two or more years of progressively responsible experience in the conduct of social science research, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Academic understanding of econometric and biostatistical analytic methodologies (i.e., multinomial logistic regression).
